“..Now there is in Jerusalem by the Sheep Gate a pool, which is called in Hebrew, Bethesda, having five porches. In these lay a great multitude of sick people, blind, lame, paralyzed, waiting for the moving of the water. For an angel wnet down at a certain time into the pool and stirred up the water; then whoever stepped in first, after the stirring of the water, was made well of whatever disease he had” (John 5:2-4).
Jesus said in John 7:38 “he who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.” We have the rivers of living water within us. Is it stirred daily and flowing through you for the sick, blind, lame and paralyzed to be healed? Stagnating water stinks! Peter and John went to the temple and they saw a man lame from his mother’s womb asking for alms. Peter’s Bethesda was stirred up to heal the lame man. That pool of Bethesda in Jerusalem needed to be stirred by an angel and that is also only certain time. We can be stirred up and be ready to heal the sick 24/7.
Churches should be a livingwater Bethesda! Not just to have a ceremonial church service but opens the door for the lame, sick, blind and paralysed to be brought in to experience our Savior’s redeeming, healing and miracle working power. This is New Testament church! A spiritual hospital! A Sheep Gate by which sick and lost can come in! This pool was near the Sheep Gate in Jerusalem. The Hebrew Word Bethesda means ‘pool of mercy’. It has five porches. Five is a number in the Bible for ‘Grace.’ Our Savior in us is a pool of mercy and grace wanted to reach out the lost around us.
How can we stir up the water? The Bible says: “not lagging in diligence, fervent in spirit, serving the Lord” (Rom 12:11). The Bible says be fervent in the spirit. When we speak in tongues we are stirring up the living water in us. Never ignore or neglect this divine instruction God gave us to follow everyday. The Bible says in Eph 5:15-19, “see then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the lord is. And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled in the Spirit, speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord.” Our spirit man is edified and stirred up when we speak in tongues. When our spirit is stirred we will speak to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs. Let the gifts in you be stirred up. Be ready always; look for the opportunities to be used by God. Not just for Sunday but everyday! There are hurting and spiritually and physically sick people around you! Wake up! Make use of every opportunity to speak a word in due season to a hungry soul or a word of encouragement to those who around you.
Be a Living Bethesda everyday in your world!
