That
which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have
fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his
Son Jesus Christ (1 John 1:3).
It’s always so beautiful
when believers fellowship with one another. The Bible says, "Behold, how
good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!"
(Psalms 133:1). Our fellowship with one another attracts blessings. Psalms
133:2-3 says, "It is like the precious ointment upon the head, that ran
down upon the beard, even Aaron’s beard: that went down to the skirts of his
garments; As the dew of Hermon, and as the dew that descended upon the
mountains of Zion: for there the LORD commanded the blessing, even life for
evermore."
This is however just a
part of the whole picture; there’s also the fellowship with the Lord, as read
in our opening verse; it refers to our oneness with Him. Jesus said, "I am
the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same
bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing" (John 15:5).
We’re one with the Lord; you’re in Him, and He lives in you. Acts 17:28 says,
"For in him we live, and move, and have our being…For we are also his
offspring." We thus can have real fellowship with Him because we’re His
offspring; we have His life and nature in us.
Our fellowship with Him
influences our fellowship with one another; He is love, and since we’re
products of His love, it’s our nature to love others. The Bible says, "…
he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him….If a man say, I love
God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother
whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen? And this
commandment have we from him, That he who loveth God love his brother
also," (1 John 4:16, 20-21). Walking in love and in true fellowship with
one another reflects that we love the Lord, and are walking in His will!
Prayer
Dear Father, I thank you
for the joy and blessings of loving and serving you in spirit and in truth!
Thank you for the awesome communion of your grace and power poured out in our
hearts and revealed through us, as we enjoy the blessings of fellowship and unity
in the Church, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
