But is now made manifest by the appearing of our Saviour Jesus Christ, who hath abolished death, and hath brought life and immortality to light through the gospel (2Timothy 1:10).
1John 2:25 says, "And this is the promise that he hath promised us, even eternal life." The Apostle Paul, in our theme verse, reveals that this promise of eternal life has now been fulfilled by the appearing of Jesus Christ, who "…hath abolished death, and hath brought life and immortality to light through the gospel." Death has been abolished by Jesus Christ. What this implies is that death is now "illegal"; it has no more power to function; and this is why you should refuse to let it affect you—in your body, business, finances, spirit or in your mind. Not only did Jesus abolish death, He also brought life and immortality to light, through the Gospel. The word "immortality" means immunity from death, corruption, or decay. The day you gave your heart to Christ to be born again, you were immune from death; you were severed from perishing: "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life" (John 3:16). When the reality of this verse of Scripture dawns on your spirit strongly, nothing will be impossible to you!
The expression "everlasting life" is often misunderstood by many to mean a very long life; but it means more than that! To have a very long life with sickness, poverty, and death isn’t a blessing. However, eternal life or everlasting life refers to the unconquerable life of God in a man’s spirit. It’s the life that makes you more than a conqueror. God promised this life before the world began, and through Christ Jesus, He delivered on His promise! Now, 1John 5:12 tells us, "He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life."
As a Christian, the life in you now is the life of God, and this life is not subject to death, sickness, or disease. It’s your responsibility to let this life reign in your body and over the entire circumstances of your life.
Prayer
Dear Father, I thank you for the victorious life you’ve given me in Christ Jesus. I declare that by reason of eternal life at work in me, I am immune from death and the destructive system of this world, in the mighty Name of Jesus. Amen.
