Pastor Anita
Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another (Romans 12:10).
1 Corinthians 13 very clearly describes for us the characteristics of
"agape": the God-kind of love. One of such characteristics is that God’s love
doesn’t seek it’s own; it’s selfless: "…Love (God’s love in us) does not insist
on its own rights {or} its own way, {for} it is not self-seeking…" (1
Corinthians 13:5AMP). God’s love is not selfish; it cares more for others than
for self. As a child of God, you must learn to put others first.
Love doesn’t seek redress or take account of the wrongs done to it. Love
seeks only the good of others; it does not retaliate or seek revenge. When the
revelation of the God-kind of love dawns on you, it becomes easy for you to
suffer hurt on behalf of others and not be bitter against them. It becomes easy
for you to overlook the wrong done to you by others. When you’re ill-treated by
your brother, you’ll rather take wrong, and suffer yourself to be defrauded,
than have your brother suffer for his actions (1 Corinthians 6:7).
If you’re born again, walking in love doesn’t have to be a struggle; you were
born to love. You have the nature of love; therefore, you can love God and love
your brothers and sisters in Christ truly. Shine the searchlight of God’s Word
on your heart today and be sure the attributes of love listed in 1 Corinthians
13 form the basis of your relationship with others.
Prayer
Dear Father, I thank you
for giving me your nature of love and for granting me an understanding of your
great love, that I may experience it in all its fullness and express same to
everyone in my world, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
