Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid (John 14:27).
It beats the understanding of the natural man how as Christians, we can be so
at rest and unperturbed irrespective of the crises, tribulations, turbulence and
hardship in today’s world. It’s because Jesus has given us peace. Our hearts and
minds are garrisoned by the peace of God that transcends human understanding
(Philippians 4:7).
Jesus said, "My peace I give unto you…." The word translated ‘peace’ is the
Greek ‘eirene’ which is akin to the Hebrew word ‘shalom.’ Shalom doesn’t only
refer to peace as being quiet from evil and destruction or the absence of
hostilities; it refers even more to a state of rest and prosperity. That’s the
peace Jesus lived when He walked the earth; He was at rest every time, every
day, everywhere and in all circumstances. This is the peace He’s given to
us.
Something else to notice is where He said "…not as the world giveth, give I
unto you..." (John 14:27). That’s an indication that the world does give some
kind or measure of peace, but the peace that Jesus gives is different from the
peace that the world gives. Nothing in the world can give you lasting peace, joy
and happiness outside of Christ. He alone gives lasting peace with
prosperity.
Your life will take on a new meaning when you discover that Christ in you is
your peace. He is your ‘shalom.’ ‘Shalom’ is the place of grace where life is
without struggles. So when you say, "The LORD is my peace or "Jehovah-shalom,"
you’re saying, "He’s my rest, safety and habitation; He’s the One who gives you
peace with prosperity." Hallelujah!
Prayer
Blessed Lord Jesus, what
joy thrills my soul to know that you’ve filled my life with your peace! I
declare that I experience this rest, peace, safety, total soundness and
wholeness in every aspect of my life today! Amen.
