Pastor
Chris
These
things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye
shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world (John
16:33).
The world is full of
suffering and broken humanity. World leaders are perplexed and at their wits’
end because they’ve employed so many strategies to solve the world’s problems,
but things just aren’t working the way they expect. If only they knew that the
peace of this world is Christ. Until Christ is received, there’ll be no true
peace in the world or in the hearts of men. Jesus said, "Peace I leave
with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you.
Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid" (John 14:27).
The world can offer some
measure of peace, but Jesus said the peace He gives is different from that which
the world gives. For example, the world provides amenities for health. Medical
doctors try to treat people of certain ailments, but the Word gives something
better: healing and health. Medicine may even sometimes try to heal, but only
God’s Word makes people whole with complete restoration.
Only Christ can give the
kind of peace that man needs, and that’s the peace that lasts. Happy are you if
Christ is in you, for He’s your peace! That means you’re riding with the One
who was unruffled when the winds became boisterous waves that billowed
into the boat to sink it (Mark 4:37-41). In fact, He was sleeping, when the
scared disciples woke Him up and said, "Master, don’t you care that we
perish?" All He did was to say in one breath, "Peace, be still,"
and there was a great calm.
Then, turning to the
disciples, He said, "How come you don’t have any faith?" In other
words, "Why are you afraid? I’m here with you." The Lord will calm
the storm in your business, marriage, family or job, if you have Him in your "boat."
He’ll cruise you through life gloriously in peace and triumph.
Confession
I refuse to fear! For
greater is He that is in me, than he that’s in the world. No matter how hard
the waves rage or how strong the winds are, I’m unruffled because I dwell in
the secret place of the most high, and abide under the shadow of the almighty.
Christ, the Rock of Ages, is my peace.
