He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: he that keepeth thee will not slumber. Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep (Psalm 121:3-4).
A dear lady shared her testimony some years ago. She said people around her were wondering why she was always so confident and exuberant about life, even in a time of crises and war. When everyone around her was terrified, lamenting the insecurity, inflation, hardships and their general uncertainties about the future, she was unperturbed.
Some of her friends eventually came together and asked her, "Why are you so confident?" They said to her, "In the night time, when the bombs go off, we all get under the cellars, terrified; and we stay up all night, and you never join us!"
"Oh, I found out in the Bible that the Lord never sleeps nor slumbers; I thought if He doesn’t sleep, then I should sleep! There’s no use both of us staying awake; since He’s awake for me, I go to sleep and rest!" How inspiring! What an attitude of trust and confidence in the Lord! She refused to worry or fear irrespective of all the negative happenings around her. She chose rather to cast all her cares on the Lord.
This should be your attitude as a child of God; refuse to worry or be afraid; no matter what; because the Lord is "awake for you!" 1Peter 5:7 says, "Casting all your cares upon him; for he careth for you"; put this to work in your life all the time! Refuse to have a care in the world! Take sides with God and His Word; Philippians 4:6 says, "Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God."
The list may be endless: bills to pay, the kids’ school fees to sort out, challenges at work or school, your health and that of your loved ones etc. These are potential sources of anxiety and sleepless nights. But remember, the Lord is "awake for you"; so refuse to worry; He’ll take care of things on your behalf.
Prayer
Dear Father, I roll over to you every issue that’s been in my heart, and I give room for your peace to mount guard over my heart. I reject anxiety, worry and stress, and declare that I live in joy and rest today, and everyday, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
