But when his
disciples saw it, they had indignation, saying, To what purpose is this waste?
For this ointment might have been sold for much, and given to the poor (Matthew
26:8-9).
Malachi 3:10 says,
"Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse…," meaning that
irrespective of the amount—large or small—the tithe belongs to God. Never find
yourself negotiating whether or not to pay your tithes; failure to pay it
amounts to robbing God: "Will a man rob God? Yet ye have robbed me. But ye
say, Wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and offerings" (Malachi 3:8).
There’re times you
might give to God and hear that sneaky voice ask you, "Why this
waste?" That’s the devil talking; he has no intent on promoting the will
of God. There’s nothing you could ever give to the Lord that’s too much or a
waste. What matters is the value you attach to it in your heart, and how much
the Lord is worth to you.
Some parents, for
example, get angry at their children for choosing to serve in the ministry.
They tell them, "If you had told us you wanted to work in church, we would
have sent you to a Bible school, and not "waste" funds to train you
in the university." They think that education is too much to be used in
the ministry. The truth is, only the very best of anything you have is good
enough for the Lord. He’s worth everything you could ever give and so much
more.
You can live a
vibrant, exciting, inspiring, and victorious life serving Him with all your
heart, and making Him number one in everything in your life. Don’t let anyone
deceive you with vain words and tell you it’s a waste to serve Him thus. He’s
the Lord, and He’s worth more than your life, and everything you’ve got! He
owns you, absolutely!
Prayer
Dear Father, I thank
you for giving me your very best, your Son Jesus Christ, to save me, and also
for the Holy Spirit, who guides, strengthens and comforts me through your Word,
to fulfil your will. You deserve my all, and the very best I could ever give;
I’ll serve you with my life, now and forever, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
